Mill Room Gallery

As part of our commitment to supporting all varieties of art, The Mill Room functions as an art gallery. Each MainStage show features a new artist or group of artists. Work is hung through the dining room and hall. While not all pieces are for sale, any art sold benefits the Mill and supports a local artist.

Artist Statement

James River Art League is one of the oldest art groups in Richmond and was organized in 1964 by members of a painting class taught by Helen Hull Baley.  Through her persuasion, an art league was formed south of the James River.  Noted Richmond artist Chuck Larivey was a charter member of JRAL; over time the League grew through the addition of many artists from the region.  Today, JRAL remains anchored in Greater Richmond area but includes members from throughout Central Virginia.

About the Exhibition

Swift Creek Mill Theatre is pleased to announce that the James River Art League (JRAL) will be the Featured Artist Exhibition for the run of Night Must Fall. There is no fee to view the artwork for theatre or dining patrons. Fine art will hang on the walls of the Historic Mill Room through October 26, 2025.

The exhibition includes 32 pieces from 19 artists from Central Virginia with a goal to encourage the creation and appreciation of the visual arts.  JRAL provides member artists with motivation, association and continuing education through programs that feature qualified artists and art professionals, and opportunities for juried members to exhibit work in venues throughout the Richmond area.  Mediums exhibited include a wide range of art media including oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, graphite, pen & ink, collage and more.
