My art is an inseparable part of me. Even in the darkest of times, I am compelled to create regardless of the circumstances. From being raised in a cult, serving during the war in Iraq, holding my best friend's hand during an abortion and caring for a loved one disintegrating from ALS, through it all, I continued to paint. Art is not just how I express myself; it is my coping mechanism - a way for me to momentarily escape reality.

In my creative process, I often incorporate soil from the land where I am painting to make it an integral part of the work, literally grounding myself in my art. Each completed piece is a reminder of where I stood, what I faced, and how I moved through it to finish the work. Letting a piece go, while always the goal for a working artist, means relinquishing myself of what I was carrying which can sometimes be hard to do. Though my art may provoke thought or bring peace to others, rarely is that my intention. While my intention is to always create quality art that resonates, sometimes the meaning behind a piece may be for me alone.
