"Portraits by Katherine" by Katherine Thompson is on display in The Mill Room.
There is no fee to view the artwork for theatre or dining patrons. The fine art will hang on the walls of the Historic Mill Room through March 11, 2023. Katherine, a native of Richmond, has called Chester home for the past thirty years with her husband, Michael, and her sons, Jonathan and Benjamin. She blends her extensive experience in business, teaching, creativity and avid volunteerism with her solid core values. She began drawing in high school, and has enjoyed pursuing a variety of creative endeavors including photography; specialty cake design and gum-paste floral sculpture; interior design, upholstery and draperies; theatrical set design, costuming and makeup artistry; faux finishing and murals for schools, businesses and private homes; and scenic painting for various shows at Swift Creek Mill Theatre.
She creates on heirloom quality portraiture, capturing life’s unforgettable moments on canvas. With delicate and near photorealistic detail she seeks to capture not only the likeness, but to portray the soul of her subjects.
“I was inspiredto start drawing again in 2008 by a special photo I took of my son with abutterfly. I was mesmerized by his eyesand was compelled to try to draw him,” Katherine reflects. For several years she worked exclusively ingraphite or charcoal due to her love of black & white historicalphotography. She credits this phase ofher artistic career for honing her incredible accuracy in capturing a physicallikeness of her subjects.
