Our Youth Series is a theatre arts education program meeting the needs of over 20,000 students, often with over 100 annual performances. Many students attending our performances have never experienced the joy and intellectual stimulation of professional theatre.

At the conclusion of select performances, students engage in an extensive Question and Answer period with performers, musicians and technicians. Students ask questions regarding plot and character development, lighting and sound, set design and construction, and much more. Some other performances offer a “Meet and Greet” opportunity by  the cast. These sessions are an integral part of the learning experience.

In addition to Youth shows, The Mill hosts both Beginning and Advanced Summer Youth Camps. These day camps enable children to learn behind-the-scenes skills and gain greater knowledge of and appreciation for professional theatre.

With two one-week opportunities in early summer, the Beginner Camp is an enriching sampler of everything theatre, from props and makeup to acting and lighting. On the last day of camp, family members and members of the community pack the theatre to see the campers’ hard work pay off. The two-week Advanced Camp is performance-intensive and demands focus and diligence from students, who produce and act in a full-length play that is presented to the public.

Beyond all that – Youth Programs at Swift Creek Mill are just plain fun.
